On tv today I heard someone state that Lebron is the best player in the NBA, and then went on to name his stats and where they ranked in the league. Stats mean nothing, and anyone who thinks that they do is an idiot. Let me give you a run down of why they mean nothing. Best NBA player of all-time is MJ, he is not the all time scoring rebounding or assist leader, but he has 6 rings and is the best. Emmitt Smith is the all time leading rusher and is not the best RB of all time (Barry Sanders is). Brett Favre has every passing record this side of the galaxy and is not the best QB of all time, and personally I do not put him in the top 5. He has 1 ring, i mean come on, Trent Dilfer and Doug Williams have 1 ring. I could go on and on about people who hold records and are not the best at their position or sport (John Stockton, Barry Bonds, Cy Young). Deion Sanders is hands down the best cornerback to ever play the game, he is the only true shutdown corner of all time. Team did not even try to through his way, yet he is not top 5 all time in interceptions. I even consider him the best football player of all time. No one dominated his position like Deion did. There are only 2 instances in which a record holder is considered the best of all time, Wayne Gretzky and Jerry Rice. Even with that, I do not considere Rice the best WR of all time. The most consistent yes, but not the greatest. If I have 1 play to win a game, with everything on the line Im going to Michael "Playmaker" Irvin. He is the only WR that I have ever seen be able to make every play when a team knows who is getting the ball. So, dont give me any stats, they mean dick.
