Rap has been dead for the past decade. This is a bold statement but it needs to be said. Another normal guy, THP, would agree... adding to his earlier post I must argue this blind truth. When hearing cars passing by, drinking beers at a bar, and overhearing every ipod that walks buy it is hard for me not to cringe my teeth at this dog shit music. Just about every song has piano techno beats, predictable bass lines, and if samples are evident they are chopped as clean as a fillet. The mainstream is overpopulated with Lil's and bling and unbearable lyrics.
The hip-hop of underground and old is where good music can be found. It is so obvious, every aspect is improved. The production of the beats are sophisticated and unique. The samples mesh together, the lyrics have great syntax, and the music flows. It really seems as if a new era in rap music has fallen upon us and in my opinion it sucks ass. Great rappers like B.I.G. and Wu tang are forgotten as "dance-rap" is taking center stage. I call this new music dance rap because that is the only thing it is good for, everyone loves dancing to these cheesy beats. Although it has its place in clubs and dance fests, it has no place on anyone's playlist.
